ABARNE’s operations strive to be based on zero-waste principles with a circular mindset. Since ABARNE is producing and selling products as well as services we need to be mindful of our practices to ensure the sustainability of our activities. We respect the fact that the world economy and its complicated systems are difficult to navigate and sometimes the obvious might not be so clear, for two things can be true at the same time.

Our zero waste mindset revolves around creating processes that can be incorporated into the daily routines at ABARNE. By following the five principles of zero-waste; refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rot. We observe the International Zero Waste day on the 30th of march every year.

At ABARNE we refuse by declining products, services or activities that are not needed for our business to thrive. We try to implement this in the smallest of ways, eg we refer our business partners to mail or digital contact instead of using paper invoices etc. We reduce the impact of our waste impact by choosing products with adequate packaging, when we receive products with unnecessary emballage we engage in conversations with the supplier to find a solution to rectify the issues. The conversation and support for change in a friendly manner is vital for us as a company, change happens in small steps.

ABARNE reuses a lot of its byproducts to give life to products that might seem fully exploited. One example being our home made oat milk that produces fiber waste that can’t be incorporated into the drink. The left over fibers are transformed into our delicious overnight oats that is packed with deliciousness and nutrients. An organic orange can in its beauty be an incredible design artifact, it can be eaten as it is, made into a juice or marmalade, transformed to garnish or even made into essential oils.

To be a part of a circular economy, or a regenerative economic system one has to design the artifacts, services and engagement in a way that can be beneficial for not only the environment, but also for the humans residing in it. This means that companies need to rethink the way they view their enterprises. Economic growth creates new markets, jobs, models and may lead to cost effectiveness that can create better living situations for people in a community.  We therefore believe in being mindful, wholesome, and responsible in every step of the business.

We hold ourselves to a high standard, but we also want our guests and customers to take part in sharing the responsibility for the waste management by following the disposal instructions on the products we provide or else stated information. We also encourage our customers to reuse our packaging for home decorative purposes. A used glass container can work wonderfully as a vase.
