Sencha stands for 80% of the entire tea production in Japan. These leaves have been carefully handpicked, steamed & dried to ensure its wonderful & deep umami flavor.
The process to make sencha was discovered in 1738 by Nagatani Soen. The leaves were first handpicked & then rolled & steamed at the same time, ensuring the perservation of the sweet & deep umami flavor of sencha. Nagatani’s house has been made into a museum & we recommend any tea lover to visit if one finds oneself in the area, Ujitawara town: Nagatani Soen Seik
