Sustainable sourcing process
We handpick each item used in production to ensure the quality and sustainability of both the product and producer. When deciding upon a product and its benefits for our company we look at the following criteria:
-
Quality & added value
A We always search for the product with the highest quality to make sure that our customers can get the “creme de la creme”. The added value to our customer’s life is our priority.
-
Locally & nationally produced
ABARNE believes that the whole society is responsible for the future of the planet. To decrease transport costs and pollution we always look for the shortest transportation routes. It is also equally as important for us to cooperate with the other local producers in our surroundings to ensure that the local market is supported.
-
Organic Certifications
Certifications aid us to ensure that the products purchased have been third party approved to ensure that the environment and the producers are being respected as well as ensuring safe products for our customers. We are also aware of the fact that some smaller producers do not have the financial capacity to get certified, in these cases we as a company try to ensure that the quality is still met.
-
Origin places
Some products are better when they are sourced from their area origin. We try to respect the artisanal crafts that come with long lineages of crafters that have perfected their ways over sometimes centuries. Sometimes quality is found where quality is from.
-
Ethical aspects
Products taste, feel and look better if they’re made with love. Happiness adds value to artisanal products/objects and can be felt by the customer. We want to share the love of the crafts to enrich our customers’ daily activities.
-
Alternatives
If we are unable to ensure that the products we source do not full fill any of the above stated factors/characteristics ABARNE will make an internal investigation into the matter, and a product will be used/sold if its benefits are larger than the “cost” of the above.
Ethical Sourcing
Our goal has been and continues to be to source and produce the highest quality products available, but to do so in a sustainable and ethical manner. We routinely engage with our producers and suppliers to ensure that our criteria for sourcing is met. It’s through strong ties with local and international actors we are able to influence and promote sustainability.
Ethical sourcing can be described as the procurement of goods/services in a way that is considerate and mindful of its impacts on the environment, cultures, humans, biodiversity.
Common grounds for ethical sourcing:
-
Sustainable Procurement
There is a priority towards selecting supplies that have been harvested or produced in an environmentally and financially sustainable way.
-
Support to Humane Labor
The principles of equity and fair treatment to workers include ensuring locally fair wages and humane working conditions.
-
Transparency
Producers must be open to site visits and controls of all of their certifications to ensure they are compliant.
We understand that reality is complicated and the above stated parameters can be difficult to fulfill in every situation. If we notice a discrepancy from our sustainability practices we will engage with the producer to support them on their way to a sustainable future. If a supplier or producer has no interest in improving their sustainability we will immediately start searching for a new and better suited supplier or producer.
